The Chilean Dairy Sector’s Sustainable Development Plan
The Chilean Dairy Sector’s Sustainable Development Plan
During the second week of January 2018, the dairy sector in Chile announced its Sustainable Development Agenda to 2021, a proposal that establishes the challenges and work guidelines of the sector for the next four years in matters of economic, social and environmental sustainability.
The document that will guide this path was developed in a participatory manner by all the organizations that make up the dairy chain and led by the National Committee of the IDF in the country. It was also supported by the Dairy Sustainability Framework, represented by Development Director, Brian Lindsay.
Some of the work priorities that this Agenda addresses in the short term are: to generate an environment of greater confidence within the chain; improve the working conditions of workers and their families in order to enhance their economic and social development; Caring for the environment; animal welfare and innovation in the activity, as well as contributing to the value of dairy products in consumers.
Consistent with adherence to the Rotterdam Declaration, with the publication of this Agenda the Chilean dairy sector recognizes its responsibility to be suppliers of an essential food for the development and health of people at all stages of their lives, and an activity that provides economic and social development to families, to territories and to the country.
