Dairy Sector submission to the UNFCCC, Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture
Dairy Sector submission to the UNFCCC, Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture
Some of you will be aware of the extremely important initiative under the UNFCCC known as the Koronivia Joint Work Program on Agriculture.
After the DSF presented at a Climate Change, Agriculture & Food Security (CCAFS) meeting in the Autumn of 2019, the DSF and Global dairy platform were requested by the UNFCCC Secretariat to provide a submission for consideration by the Chairs of Koronivia Work Program with the ultimate aim of providing a contribution that demonstrates the proactive efforts by the global dairy sector in addressing the sustainability with an emphasis on climate change.
The workshop, originally planned for June 2020 though now postponed until October this year has two key areas of consideration.
- Improved livestock management systems, including agropastoral production systems and others and
- Socioeconomic and food security dimensions of climate change in the agricultural sector
Dairy has been active in both of these areas and has been able to provide a submission detailing the efforts the sector is going to to try and address these (and other) aspects of the Koronivia Joint Work Program on Agriculture. We are hopeful that this submission will result in the opportunity for the DSF to be present at the October Koronivia meeting to share with all the country representatives in attendance the investment that dairy is making as a responsible industry.
