A World Without Cows
A World Without Cows
The cattle sector frequently comes under attack from those that argue that the planet’s climate change issues would be resolved if we simply stopped cattle farming. A paper, published this month in the journal, Nutrition Today, looks at the nutritional, environmental, cultural and economic implications if we woke up to a world without cows.
Written by Dr Mitch Kanter and Donald Moore, both of Global Dairy Platform, the paper discusses both the positive and negative sides of a world without cows. It acknowledges that the dairy sector (like all sectors that add to global GHG emissions) has work to do, but also highlights the high cost of losing not only this important source of nutrition, but also contributes to economic and cultural stability in countries around the world.
