DSF Members Meeting Daejeon Korea
DSF Members Meeting Daejeon Korea
Our second ‘physical’ members meeting for 2018 was well attended and another interactive and dynamic program was enjoyed by all.
Presentations by Dairy Farmers of America’s Jay Waldvogel and GDP’s Jerreau Beaudoin demonstrated how the DSF supports the delivery of company sustainability efforts and the importance of quantifying progress to underpin associated communications.
Dr Marty Matlock of the University of Arkansas provided a status update on the DSF Indicator Metrics development process, with the final four indicators having now completed their period of public consultation.
Donald Moore, Chairman of the DSF commented that utilizing the skills and experience of Dr Marty Matlock through the development of the 11 High Level Indicator metrics and undertaking periods of public consultation for all, has resulted indicators that are both science based and robust.

Global Dairy Platform’s Sector lead for Dairy Development Ernesto Reyes shared with DSF members a recent report published by The FAO, GDP and IFCN that clearly demonstrates the positive role that dairy plays in delivering the DSF Criteria – Rural Economies. An update from the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform Dairy Working Group, heard how the B2B model is now in a piloting phase, which involves numerous DSF members. The B2B model development is exploring how the DSF approach could be utilized in a commercial environment between suppliers and buyers. The meeting as always was an opportunity for members to hear from other members on their unique approach to addressing topics such as soils (Chris Ward - Fonterra, Anna Flysjö - Arla Foods), biodiversity (Jaap Petraeus - Friesland Campina and Helen Dornom - Dairy Australia) and the wider value of DSF membership (Natalie Jones – Consorcio Lechero). All of these presentations are available for DSF members by clicking here to members login.
Having DSF members, DSF Advisory Council and DSF Governors in the same room is a unique opportunity to discuss DSF developments and progress in an open forum. DSF Chairman Donald Moore led a discussion session that covered the topics of reporting and the importance of using the Framework to generate the appropriate evidence base in support of various dialogues taking place in other forums such as United Nations.
