DSF Members Webinars – the latest and what’s coming up next
In March, Dai Harvey, Land O’ Lakes Venture 37, gave an insight into Dairy Market Development in Emerging Economies. The World’s population will reach 10 billion people and only 37% of the earth’s surface area is available to grow crops and raise livestock to nourish that population. 160 million children are malnourished (affecting cognitive development as well as stunting growth) and one in three of these are in Africa. Dai outlined the GDP DNA (Dairy Nourishes Africa) initiative, that uses Market Delivery as a vehicle to enhance the accessibility of much needed nutrition by engaging farmers in viable formal markets, servicing increasing consumer demand and the accessibility of quality dairy products.
In April, Professor Rogier Schulte from Wageningen University & Research spoke on Moving Regenerative Agriculture from aspirations to actions. Professor Schulte provided a clear definition of regenerative farming and reflected on the role it will play in a more sustainable food system. Participants were fascinated with the practical examples from the Global Network of Lighthouse Farms. Positive disruptions in agricultural production on these farms are implemented to explore, a food system where ruminant livestock, and more specifically dairy, can contribute to the diversity of solutions for a sustainable future.
The forthcoming three webinars from May to July, feature individual DSF Members who will share aspects of their sustainability programs, how they are tackling certain issues, challenges they have had and the solutions employed and of course, success stories. The first in the series on How to keep stakeholders interested in your Sustainability progress is with Dairy Australia’s, Helen Dornom on 26 May at 20h00 (UK time).
The DSF encourages Members who would like to share their sustainability program experiences with their fellow DSF member colleagues to get in contact with the DSF Secretariat.
Members can register to attend webinars on the DSF Extranet or by emailing the DSF Secretariat. Recordings of previous webinars are available on the DSF Extranet for Implementing & Aggregating members who were unable to attend the webinar on the day.
