Exciting news on a new hydrogen-diesel hybrid engine – how could this support Agriculture?
Research engineers at the University of New South Wales, Australia, have announced that they have successfully modified a conventional diesel engine to use a mix of hydrogen and a small amount of diesel. They are claiming that their patented technology has cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by more than 85%. Engineers around the world have been racing to develop diesel – hydrogen engines, but the Australian team believe they are in the lead since their design achieves a higher percentage using hydrogen over diesel, resulting in a higher CO2 reduction. Of course, the environmental impact of the breakthrough will depend on how green the hydrogen used is.
