2024 DSF Webinars – what you’ve missed and what’s coming up
Earlier this month, DSF Members tuned in to the latest webinar on Towards sustainable food systems – understanding the nutrient contribution of dairy. Programme Leader Sustainable Food Systems at Fonterra and co-founder of the Sustainable Nutrition Initiative (SNi) at the Riddet Institute, Andrew Fletcher and post doctoral research fellow, Raquel Lozano, outlined the objectives of the Institute. The key take away from the webinar was that we need to strike a balance between addressing climate change and feeding a growing world population. The session outlined how milk contributes to global nutrition as part of a ‘plant-based, animal-optimised diet’. Publicly available, delegates were encouraged to explore the SNi website and in particular the Delta Model. This webinar initiated the provision of Spanish interpretation. For those Members who missed this webinar, a recording is available in English or Spanish on the DSF Members area of our website.
The next webinar is on May 14 - Project Proteos: The importance of high-quality protein in sustainable diets and what this means for dairy. This six-year study considered a more robust way to quantify protein quality in foods. At a time when animal-sourced foods in general, and dairy products in particular, are being scrutinized for their impact on human health as well as the environment, developing a science-based and robust method that differentiates animal-sourced proteins from other protein sources would provide a more detailed level of evidence. Dr Mitch Kanter, of Global Dairy Platform will provide the project overview and explain the implications of the project outcomes. Spanish interpretation will again be provided, so all you need to do is register.
Details of all future webinars and registration links can be found on the DSF Members area of the website.
