Also at UNEA-6, the work of the DSF and Pathways to Dairy Net Zero (P2DNZ) was profiled. The Business and Industry Major Group (BIMG) has detailed three dairy initiatives as Beacon Projects. BIMG is accredited to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It represents more than 5,000 leading global, regional and domestic businesses that are addressing climate, biodiversity loss and pollution, while working toward the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.
The inaugural BIMG Beacon Projects report was released in February 2024 at the sixth meeting of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) in Nairobi, Kenya. BIMG considers the Beacon Projects to be a testament to the power of collaborative efforts to address challenges such as climate change, biodiversity and inequality on the local, regional and global levels.
The report showcases 35 projects and demonstrates their role in scaling up sustainable initiatives worldwide. P2DNZ is cited as a global climate project. The report recognises that P2DNZ is a movement dedicated to reducing dairy’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over the next 30 years and brings together a diverse range of dairy farms of every size and type, as well as organizations throughout the dairy supply chain.
Two further DSF examples that were profiled from the recent DSF/GDP/IFAD case studies with Amul (Livestock as Part of the Sustainability Solution) and Palmhouse Dairies (Implementing the DSF Model in Kenya).
