DSF Communities of Interest – update
DSF Communities of Interest – update
The GHG Emissions CoI met in September and enjoyed a fascinating presentation from Dr Juan Tricarico of Innovation Center for US Dairy (DSF aggregating member for the US) who explained technologies available to reduce enteric methane emissions. The group engaged in a lively discussion on latest research findings related to feed additives, their efficacy, economics of use and the potential variability of results.
The Animal Care CoI met last week and had a wide ranging discussion following a presentation from one of the group - Katie Saunders of Dairy NZ, DSF aggregating member. Katie shared the outcomes of a project investigating how technology can enhance the measuring and improvement of animal welfare of pasture based cattle, in particular welfare metrics to provide evidence of progress.
Finally, the Biodiversity CoI, the DSF is delighted that Julia Buckingham from Dairy Farmers of Canada, who are DSF implementing members, has agreed to be the group’s facilitator. Dairy Farmers of Canada have been working in this space for a while and have recently developed a method of incorporating biodiversity into Lifecycle Assessment calculations. Julia is keen to share this work as well as encourage others to share their biodiversity experiences for the benefit of all. The next meeting of the group will be 25 October.
If you would like to be sent details of any of the Community of Interest groups and you are an implementing or aggregating DSF member, please contact the DSF Secretariat.
