How Dairy Cattle Health impacts on GHG Emissions – pilot study report published
The 2019 Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Global Dairy Platform (GDP) report ‘Climate Change and the Global Dairy Cattle Sector’ identified improved cattle health as a key action to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from livestock production. The Global Research Alliance (GRA), GDP and the DSF undertook a research pilot study to explore this further and previously shared initial findings last December.
This project is now completed and explored the considerable potential for long-term cost-effective mitigation of GHG emissions in three different geographies through implementation of key Animal Health Improvement Measures (AHIM). The report covers the effect of proactive animal health management on GHG emissions, as well as the economic impact this has on farms alongside how these AHIMs could be included in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the necessary measurement, reporting and verification required to achieve this.
The full report and a summary brochure are available and can also be found on the DSF website.
