Is the grass always greener elsewhere?
Can we learn from how other industries are tackling GHG challenges? Here are an interesting couple of items exploring how other sectors are tackling the intricacies of carbon footprinting and mitigating GHG emissions.
- Sustainability Consultancy Finch & Beak’s piece spotlights the construction industry, with materials such as steel and cement, and their progress towards net zero. Read the article
- The Australian natural fibres industry (wool, cotton and mohair) traditionally in competition with each other, have come together to challenge Europe’s plans to label synthetics as more sustainable. Their “Make the label count“ campaign emphasises the complexities of carbon footprinting methodologies and how challenging it can be to compare different products on the same basis. The campaign points out that the European Commission’s proposal is that the methodology they plan to use to measure environmental impacts of clothing - the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) – is incomplete as it downplays or excludes critical environmental impacts.
