Transforming livestock systems to achieve better agrifood systems and help solve global challenges - DSF welcomes the FAO’s new Director’s remarks at the recent World Dairy Summit. Thanawat Tiensen, FAO’s new Director of the FAO Animal Production and Health Division is also a Governor of the DSF. He spoke of the FAO’s vision for future Livestock work: sustainable livestock transformation for better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life for all. The FAO believes that achieving a sustainable way of feeding an ever-growing population, livestock systems can play a major role in improving nutrition, farmers’ livelihoods and rural development and contributing to better agrifood systems. However, a sector needs to move towards more sustainable practices to enhance the benefits of dairy in developing economies, reduce the sector’s impact on the planet and accelerate climate action.
