World Dairy Summit

MG_9624The GDAA Reporting Session on 21 September featured an update on the progress of the GDAA and the Dairy Sustainability Framework (DSF) including speakers from member organisations.

It was a lively session with presentations from Jaap Petraeus, Manager Corporate Sustainability, FrieslandCampina, Tobie De Villiers, General Manager: Milk Procurement, Clover Industries, Helen Dornom, Manager Sustainability including Food Safety and Integrity, Dairy Australia and Jay Waldvogel, Senior Vice President of Strategy and International Development, Dairy Farmers of America

The session which also doubled as the launch of the very first GDAA Annual Report (accessible here), effectively established the ‘starting point’ for the DSF.  It was clear by the presentations that were delivered by members that the dairy sector is truly diverse globally in terms of production and processing approaches.  The basis of the Framework is to enable flexible approaches to solving local challenges, whilst aligning the sector at a global level.  The input from our members confirmed that the model of the DSF is the right approach.

We still have a long way to go, although it was evident that the DSF has made a flying start and has established a robust platform from which the dairy value chain can continually improve.
